“A Vulcan in the White House”

“Spock’s cool, analytical nature feels more fascinating and topical than ever now that we’ve put a sort of Vulcan in the White House.”  Thus writes Steve Daly in his discussion of the continuing popularity of Star Trek in Newsweek, and this observation gave me pause. 

Barack Obama as ‘a sort of Vulcan’, cool, collected, intellectually parsing problems? Yeah, actually, I can buy that. 

But now I can’t get the picture of Spock ears on the President out of my mind…
