New Pages: From Lizard Tricks to Space

Been kind of filling in the foundation here so this platform can leap through many hoops in the coming weeks and months.  A big Thank You to the marvelously talented Ed Beard, Jr., for permission to use his fantastic dragon artwork (his are the beautiful realistic [assuming dragons read books] drawings, not the cartoonish ones that might be lurking around here somewhere).  If you don’t recognize Ed’s name, you may still recognize his work from Dungeons & Dragons products and Magic the Gathering cards, and many other places. You’ll be reading more about Ed and his artwork in the future here.

So, what have we got for your edification and amusement? Little islands of curiosities have popped up in various places around the blogsite[1] like mushrooms after a storm. To wit:

Lizard Tricks:  a glimpse at what is in the future for a portion of this site’s content, mostly in the more light-hearted or snack-oriented vein.  Sure, I’ll be writing about my writing, too (it’s one of the links under Passions), but I need some variety of creative burgeonings to keep things fresh.  Hence this section.  Plus, as an added bonus, there is Dire Intimation there of an impending visit from a couple of friends of mine. Or more like, they’re moving in. Into this site, that is. Well – go read it. You’ll see what I mean.

Passions:  Avoid this if you don’t care about personal trivia. On the other hand, if you want to see what kind of interests we might have in common (I hope as the basis of  having good dialogs here and forming friendly connections with the like-minded) – then, dive in.  It may be longish or TMI, to which all I can say, is:  brain-dump.   Some headers will be expanded into links over time.

Comments:  Love ‘em or hate ‘em, they make the blogging world go ’round. As you may know, most blogs have comments only on the blog, not the static pages. For that matter, blog-centric sites often don’t have many static pages, relatively speaking. Not this joint, though. I may greet you with my blog, but there’s plenty of other stuff going on to draw you in and lure you down a dark alley keep you engaged and entertained.   So, in this place you’ll find comments open on non-blog pages where things like book reviews, features, and certain essays reside.  Some pages lack comments, like most of the tabbed links at the top of this screen, that are jumping-off points for other content.   In those cases, I’ve created a free comment zone where you’re welcome to post whatever’s on your mind.  See the General Comments link in the sidebar, or at the foot of otherwise uncommented pages.

So hey, any time you want to say something but don’t know where to post it, hit that link and kvetch as you like.  It’s a general forum, not content-specific. You bring your own content (and context) to the party.

Finally, if you haven’t seen the Splintegrate page yet, do stop by.  You can take an unexpected (albeit very brief) jaunt from that location. Check it out.  :)

And now it’s back to the salt mine with me…

1.  Actually, I want to call this a blog-web, which is hilarious because ‘web log’ is the source of the word ‘blog’, named so because it was a frequenly updated log on a (originally static) web page. Eventually web sites have been displaced left and right with log-centric platforms, i.e. the ubiquitous blogs we see everywhere that sorta look like a traditional website but don’t function that way at all.  But what about a blog-centered site that branches out and reclaims some of the webbiness of  the blog’s predecessor? Website sounds too static; blog sounds too transient; “web log” is silly because that is saying the same things as blog.  “Log web” is a symmetric reversal of words, but meaningless, because this here isn’t the web, per se: it’s a site on the web. Ergo, “logsite”? Hm. Sounds cumbersome. In fact, this whole train of thought is cumbersome. It’s apparent I just can’t call this web locus anything at all.

I’ll get back to you on that.
